When people ask us how Pizzas & Cream got started, they usually expect to hear a business plan or some grand vision. The truth is, it started with a backyard oven.
After celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in Italy, we came home inspired by the incredible wood-fired pizzas we had enjoyed there. We couldn't stop talking about them. Before long, my husband, Ed, and our son, Stephen, decided they were going to build an authentic wood-fired brick oven right in our own backyard.
At first, it was simply a family project. We weren't opening a restaurant. We weren't planning a business. We just wanted to see if we could recreate the incredible pizza we had experienced halfway around the world.
Night after night, we'd light the fire, experiment with different dough recipes, sauces, cheeses,
and fresh ingredients, inviting family and friends over to taste the latest creation. Every pizza taught us something new, and every gathering reminded us how special it is when good food brings people together.
Before long, friends started asking if they could bring someone with them. Church groups wanted pizza nights. Neighbors were stopping by. Then complete strangers began asking where they could buy our pizza. That's when we realized something special was happening. Instead of simply building an oven for our family, God had given us an opportunity to serve others.
So, on March 11, 2015, Pizzas & Cream opened its doors in Nebo, West Virginia.
One thing that has never changed is our commitment to quality. We still believe great food starts with great ingredients. Our pizzas are handcrafted, cooked in authentic wood-fired ovens, and made with the same care and attention that started in our backyard all those years ago.
As the restaurant grew, so did our dream. Guests began driving from all over West Virginia just to experience our wood-fired pizza and homemade ice cream. Families made us part of their vacations. Friends gathered around our tables after ballgames. Birthdays, anniversaries, first dates, and countless family dinners became part of our story too.
Because of your incredible support, we were blessed with the opportunity to open a second Pizzas & Cream location in South Charleston, allowing us to serve even more families while staying true to everything that made our original restaurant so special.
Although we now have two locations, our heart hasn't changed. We still believe some of life's best moments happen around a table. We still love seeing children enjoy their first scoop of homemade ice cream. We still smile when families linger after dinner because no one is quite ready for the evening to end. We're grateful for every person who chooses to spend part of their day with us. Whether you're visiting our original location in Nebo or joining us in South Charleston, we hope you'll feel more like a guest in our home than simply a customer in a restaurant.
Thank you for allowing us to do what we love.
We look forward to serving you for many years to come.
